  1. The Roles of a School Counselor By Mrs. Dawne Gibson

  2. Teacher We have a set curriculum provided by the state that we must follow. We teach from these standards during our Guidance lessons. Some topics we cover include respect, responsibility, and character education.

  3. One on One Counseling We serve as listeners and mentors to students and their families in times of need.

  4. Small Group Counseling We conduct small groups for students who share a common issue that has recently occurred in their lives, such as divorce or the death of a loved one.

  5. Crisis Counselor We serve students and their families during times where critical issues occur unexpectedly, such as tornadoes or fires.

  6. Career Counselor We help navigate students through the world of work, as well as their personal interests. We introduce them to the various career paths that are available.

  7. Other roles of a counselor include: peer facilitator, advisor, program manager, researcher, and much more.

  8. What does this mean? What you tell me will be between us unless: *You are in danger or someone else is in danger. *The judge makes me tell what we discussed. *It is a violation of school policy. *You want me to share it with someone else. *There is a need to get someone else involved to help you.
