  1. How to Make a Pickle and other thoughts on Becoming Like Jesus

  2. …Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion… Philippians 1:6 (NIV)

  3. Jeremy RifkinTime Wars We are a nation in love with speed. We drive fast, eat fast, make love fast. We are obsessed with breaking records and shortening time spans. We digest our life, condense our experiences, and compress our thoughts. We are a culture surrounded by memos and commercials. While other cultures might believe haste makes waste, we are convinced that speed reflects alertness, power, and success. Americans are always in a hurry

  4. Jeremy RifkinTime Wars It is ironic that in a culture so committed to saving time we feel increasingly deprived of the very thing we value… Despite our alleged efficiency … we seem to have less time for ourselves and far less time for each other. We have quickened the pace of life only to become less patient. We have become more organized but less spontaneous… We are better able to act on the future but less able to enjoy the present

  5. Dr. A. H. Strong “A student asked the President of his school whether he could not take a shorter course than the one prescribed. “Oh yes,” replied the President, “but then it depends on what you want to be. When God wants to make an oak, He takes a hundred years, but when he wants to make a squash, he takes six months.” é

  6. The Lord isn’t slow about keeping his promises, as some people think he is. In fact, God is patient, because he wants everyone to turn from sin and no one to be lost. II Peter 3:9 (CEV)

  7. …For the Lord one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a day II Peter 3:8 (CEV)

  8. We live in God’s waiting room Be still and know that I am God Psalm 46:10 Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him Psalm 37:7

  9. My Father is always at his work John 5:17 (NIV)

  11. For my determined purpose is that I may know Christ - that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding him more strongly and more clearly… Philippians 3:10 (AMP)

  12. How to “Get Pickled” • Exchange your narrative for His

  13. Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ Luke 13:6-8 (CEV, MSG)

  14. The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention- I’ll dig around it and fertilize, and maybe it will produce next year.’ Luke 13:6-8 (CEV, MSG)

  15. To apply truth – dig around

  16. …If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:31 (NIV)

  17. To apply Grace - water & fertilizer

  18. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again John 3:17 (MSG)

  19. You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives Genesis 50:20 (NIV)
