Greek Root Vocabulary Project. Description of Project. Each student will be assigned a Greek root word. Students are to find the meaning(s) of the root Some only have one meaning Some may have two or three meanings Students will collect 20 words that demonstrate the use of the Greek root.

  1. Greek Root Vocabulary Project

  2. Description of Project • Each student will be assigned a Greek root word. • Students are to find the meaning(s) of the root • Some only have one meaning • Some may have two or three meanings • Students will collect 20 words that demonstrate the use of the Greek root.

  3. Example • Greek root cosm • Has three meanings • Universe • Order/ornament • World • Words that use the root cosm: • Microcosm, cosmic ray, cosmos, cosmetics, cosmology and cosmonaut

  4. Find the definitions of the words • Cosmic: having to do with the whole universe • Cosmology: study of the universe • Microcosm: a small world • Cosmetics: used to ornament the face Be certain that the definition uses the meaning of the word

Sort the words by their meanings if your root has more than one meaning Universe Cosmology- the study of the universe Cosmic- having to do with the whole universe Cosmogony- the study of the origin of the universe Order/ornament Cosmetics- used to ornament the face World Microcosm- a small world Macrocosm- a large world Cosmopolitan- having to do with the whole world

  6. Create a poster showing your Greek Root and related words BE ORIGINAL! DO NOT just type up everything on a sheet and paste it to the construction paper. You will lose lots of points using this method. You may use a computer to find the root meaning, to find words using the root, and to find definitions. The majority of the poster should be created by hand The poster is due April 16, 2013
