  1. The National Audit of Psychological Therapies’ quality improvement competition

  2. Background The National Audit of Psychological Therapies (NAPT) aims to evaluate and improve the quality of treatment and care provided to adults with anxiety and depression in England and Wales A quality improvement competition was developed to: • formally recognise services that worked hard to make noticeable improvements following receipt of their baseline results • highlight the benefits of taking part in a national audit • promote good practice

  3. Competition entries • Competition form asked for: • areas identified for local improvement • work planned/undertaken • how progress would be assessed • Judging panel based their decisions on: • creativity of ideas • service user involvement • stakeholder engagement • impact of the work • evidence of progress • sustainability of improvement plans

  4. Awards • Certificates and prizes presented at the New Savoy Partnership Psychological Therapies conference in Nov 2012 • Prizes included free places at the conference • The service and their achievements were also mentioned in the NAPT newsletter and on the NAPT website

  5. Conclusions Winning teams said: • how beneficial the audit process had been for their services • how the competition had helped to engage their staff in responding to the NAPT recommendations • How the competition had allowed them to celebrate their hard work The success of the NAPT competition has prompted other national audits to look at running similar initiatives
