  2. This visit • Debra Butera invited me to your Curtis High School class “Information Technology in a Global Society” to provide someinsights to what is behind the “Clouds”.

  3. Command Center Support Console Infrastructure System Support (CCS CISS) • The Console Infrastructure System Support (CISS) team is based out of Tampa, Colorado Springs, Fort Wayne, and Blue Hill. • Console Infrastructure System Support (CISS) is responsible for the acquisition, set-up, trouble-shooting, maintenance, and administration of personal computers (PCs) in its Windows Organizational Unit (OU) within a Verizon domain. • CISS provides 24 x 7 x 365 on-call support for the Command Centers. • The Command Centers manage the operations of the data center’s virtualization capable IBM System z10 2094 type mainframes and various manufactures Unix, AIX and Linux open systems. • CISS provides a standard desktop image across the enterprise for the Command Centers and configuration of Operations department file servers. • We meet or exceed a systems availability performance metric of 99.96% (VzT) and 99.95% (VzB) overall for our mission-critical applications as measured by end-user systems availability.

Command Center Support Console Infrastructure System Support (CCS CISS) • The Command Centers virtual team shares workloads and can each provide full support during the other’s disaster recovery. The data centers also have the same proven functional abilities. • CISS provides secured remote control systems that allows the Command Center to administer geographically dispersed systems. • CISS also provides support of performance measurement systems used to forecast and remediate problems prior to client impact. • The Command Centers monitor selected mission critical applications to ensure that an average end-user response level of 1.44 seconds or less is met for VzT and 2.0 seconds or less for VzB.

The Medical Data Exchange Verizon Business developed the platform for the Medical Transcription Service Consortium • Founding consortium members MD-IT and MedQuist currently are using the platform. By August, when the Medical Data Exchange is expected to be in use by all of the consortium’s members, 350,000-plus physicians, more than 2,700 clinics and nearly 2,500 hospitals will be supported. • The Medical Transcription Industry Association estimates that its members create and electronically archive nearly 60 percent of the more than 1.2 billion clinical notes produced in the U.S. each year. Approximately 25 percent of these records currently are shared among health care providers, including other physicians, hospitals and insurance companies.

New Wireless Solutions Help Medical Professionals Enhance Patient Care March 03, 2010 • Healthcare organizations ranging from large city hospitals to rural community health clinics can take advantage of new customized wireless solutions from Verizon to address patient care in real time and help change the way healthcare is provided in the U.S. • “To give patients the best care possible, healthcare organizations must run efficiently, and real-time wireless communication is a powerful tool for meeting that challenge,” said John Maschenic, director of healthcare enterprise solutions for Verizon Wireless. “Mobile technology puts health information – whether it’s lab results, X-rays, patient medical history or prescription drug information – in the hands of clinicians when it’s needed.”

New Wireless Solutions Help Medical Professionals Enhance Patient Care March 03, 2010 Services presented by Verizon Wireless March 2 to attendees of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference in Atlanta included: • PatientKeeper– PatientKeeper enables physicians to interactively manage patient information across multiple locations, viewclinical results, enter charges, sign out patients, and enter and order prescriptions -- all from their smartphones. • Epocrates Rx for Android and Palm OS– Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who use Verizon Wireless smartphones with the Android OS or the Palm webOS platform can leverage this mobile drug reference application to get prescription and safety information for thousands of brand name and generic drugs instantly. • Medicine Central and Evidence Central– Offered by Unbound Medicine, these two applications are available for Verizon Wireless Android, BlackBerry, Palm and Windows Mobile devices. They connect clinicians with the latest medical journals, research and disease, drug and test data. • Motion Computing C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant (MCA) – The C5 is a hospital-grade multifunction wireless device that provides medical professionals with complete automated patient data management in the field. The MCA is now available with embedded Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband capability, providing access to both hospital information and the Internet.   9. WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION and AHI Africa Health Infoway is an ICT-based network of e-health solutions, to support health at districts in 53 African countries. It plans to implement to connectivity to global information, strengthening the capture, use and exchange of health information. Africa Health Infoway facilitates: • Local capacity building for data analysis and health sector applications • Scaling up of existing eHealth initiatives highlighting positive applications
