Conduct health workforce analyses • Assess Idaho’s capacity for training healthcare professionals • Advise the Governor and legislators on healthcare workforce issues • Develop healthcare workforce objectives for the State of Idaho and provide policy recommendations for achieving the objectives • Recommend strategies to address healthcare provider shortages in rural locations • Develop strategies to increase public/private partnerships to increase the healthcare providers for Idaho IHPEC

Pharmacy is the fourth highest ranking “Hot Job” in Idaho according to Idaho Dept. of Labor • Multiple factors are likely to increase the demand for pharmacists • Idaho appears balanced in the supply and demand for pharmacists • Changes have occurred with regard to technology, training and scope of practice Pharmacy

  6. The state-supported behavioral health system has been in some transition • Delivery of mental health services is complex and strategic planning is ongoing • Behavioral Health is an area the HPEC is planning to engage further over the council’s next year of work Behavioral Health

  7. The Council recommends the Idaho higher education articulation agreements be updated or revised between Idaho nursing education institutions to increase access and pipeline into advanced nursing degrees in Idaho Nursing

Primary Health Care Grant Update • Planning Grant completion • Next steps • The HPEC is an identified partner in the current health care workforce grant and will continue to be actively involved in this opportunity for workforce program planning and development in Idaho • The HPEC continues to meet with Department of Labor staff for ongoing collaborative efforts Idaho Department of Labor

  9. Consideration of expansion and future funding for a multi-centered regional approach to AHEC activity • Will involve cooperation between entities such as various schools of nursing and others within Idaho for the creation of a larger AHEC presence in Idaho Idaho Area Health Education Center

  10. HPEC recognizes the contributions from the Office of Rural Health and Primary Care and the opportunity to expand scope and impact of this office in Idaho Idaho Office of Rural Health and Primary Care

  11. Awareness and information sharing • Collaboration for effectiveness • Information sharing for efficiencies • Sharing best practices • Achieving and maintaining statewide perspective • Capacity building and increasing the impact of efforts Developing Strategies
