Chilled water production CMS-Point 5 UXC 55 CMS detector USC 55 (CV Zone)
Cooling of TK and SE detectors:fluids and interfaces to/from overground chilled water production chilled water C6F14 brine COOLING RACKS R 404A COLD PRODUCTION
Demands on cooling system • cold energy supply of 4 subsystems with different cooling requirements • 1. TK pixel: 7 kW @ -10 °C (- 20 /-17 °C)*) • 2. TK strip: 80 kW @ -10 °C (- 20 /-17 °C) *) • 3. TK screen: 10 kW @ -10 °C (- 11.5 /-8.5 °C) *) • 4. SE shower: 20 kW @ -6 °C (- 14 /-11 °C) *) • cold energy transport over a distance of up to 200 m • 150 m brine, 50 m C6F14 • maximum of reliability and availability • redundant cooling system • *)…C6F14 supply/return temperature
Main components of Plant A (74 kW) location UXC - 17 °C - 20 °C
C6F14 Pumping Station • Leak detection: • liquid level surveillance in tank • advantages: • technically easiest possibility • cheap (level switch< 500 CHF) • disadvantages • inertia/precision of leak detection • switch differential 1...5 mm (hysteresis) • Tracker (Vtank = 1 m3, d = 0,8 m, H =2 m) • loss of 0,5…2,5 l necessary • before realization of leak • Purge: • suction of C6F14 into the tank • by means of vacuum pump Reference: Uniphase Cooling Unit (5 kW/-25 °C) building 186, M. Bosteels
