  1. EU, SIXTH FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME EU funded Project: Partner: INTERGEO Environmental Technology Ltd.- Greece WPO4: Data compilation and analysis, 2005 1 – 2006 12 IZMIR, 1-2 APRIL

  2. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO OVERALL OBJECTIVE Compilation, analysis, and processing of TECHNO-ECONOMIC DATA The basis for OPTIMIZATION

  3. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO OPTIMIZATION Demand and supply nodes in WaterWare will incorporate the proposed water technologies including parameters for the optimization Possibly a developed pre-processor will translate the database information into parameters the WaterWare model can use Database will describe alternative water technologies, their costs and efficiencies, that the optimization algorithms can configure to meet constraints and maximize/minimize/objectives

  4. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO OPTIMIZATION • Choice of water technologies of different costs vs performance • Examine different allocation strategies to improve overall efficiency, growing demand etc MEANING multi-criteria OPTIMIZATION Maximize • Supply/demand ratio (by sector) • Reliability (% time, volume), • Efficiency, • Benefit/cost ratio CONDITION : meet the constraints (minimum or maximum allowable levels of selected criteria Eg. water quality, economic efficiency etc)

  5. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO • WATER TECHNOLOGIES CLASSES • STRUCTURES: Node structures in WaterWare • DEMAND MANAGEMENT: a technology at a cost, we can satisfy the same useful demand with less water • 3. SUPPLY MANAGEMENT: this basically includes all technologies that reduce water losses • 4. ALTERNATIVE ALLOCATION: not directly be associated with a specific water technology: it simply modifies the rules of water allocation to different users, e.g., reservoir release rules, diversion rules and priorities. • 5. QUALITY MANAGEMENT: the first release of the WaterWare optimization system does not include water quality internal to the optimization procedure; water quality will initially be treated as a constraint.

  6. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO • DATA BASE DEVELOPMENT • STEPS • INITIAL APPROACH regardingdatabase structure / Start with a subset propositionabout the structure-fields-representation • Begin Compile/Organise GENERIC INFORMATION / Looking into WATER SAVING MEASURES • Develop fewEXAMPLES as a start • Set up an on-line data base that can be used through the web • Allow partners to enter some case specificdata to the examples provided • Database structure evolution / Define a good representation structure to be in agreement with the model • 7. Filling up – completing the database

  7. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO • INITIAL APPROACH • EXCEL sheet - DATA FORMAT • NAME of the technology (short, < 16 characters) (INTERGEO) • DESCRIPTION of the technology (free text, e.g., 1024 characters) (IG) • DATES of creation and last modification (automatically updated) (IG) • LOCATION (case study this applies to, can be GENERIC for all cases) (IG) • YEAR - the reference year the data are valid for (IG) • DOMAIN (select from structures, demand, supply, allocation, quality) (IG) • IMPLEMENTATION steps of measure (free text) (IG)

  8. OPTIMA - WP 04 - Techno-economic data– INTERGEO • 8. COSTS(CASE STUDY INPUT - IG) • 8.1. Capital cost • per Works involved, ie. Construction steps bill • Labour cost (as a % of Construction costs) • Equipment costs (as a % of Construction costs) • Unexpected costs (as a % of total cost) • 8.2. Design cost (as a % of Capital cost) • 8.3. Land use cost per m2 • 8.4. Personnel and O & M costs (Price or as a % of Capital cost) • 9. INTEREST RATE (%) (CASE STUDY INPUT) • 10. Expected LIFE SPAN – yrs (IG) • 11. EFFICIENCY (water model parameter affected) (IG) • 12……………. Capital recovery factor BENEFIT COST ratio (cost of water saved) Annualized costs
