  5. Suicide Suicide is the intent to kill ones self. Suicide is a serious problem in the U.S. and one of the leading causes of death among teens. Top 3 Causes of Death of Teens: • Car Accident • Homicide • Suicide

  6. Warning Signs of Suicide • Lack of Energy • Withdrawal from friends and family • No interest in favorite activities • Expressing suicidal thoughts or talking about death • Doesn’t care about how they look • Taking unnecessary risks • Give away personal possessions

  7. What Can You Do? For most people, a suicide is a cry for help. They don’t really want to die but have too much emotional pain and don’t know how else to cope. • Act calm, let them talk about how they are feeling • Don’t challenge them or make comments such as “You don’t have the guts to do that” • Offer support, tell them how much they mean to you • Urge the person to get help and offer to go with them • Don’t promise to keep it a secret, tell an adult
