  3. Peter • Almost as though there are two different disciples named Simon Peter. The point of difference centers on before and after the resurrection • Before: Impetuous, denied Jesus (Matt. 17:4; 26:69-75) • After: preached effectively, pillar (Acts 2; Gal. 2:9) • An important point to notice (Lk. 22:32c)

  4. Peter • This epistle features two specific commands Jesus had given Peter: • To encourage and strengthen the brethren (Lk. 22:32d) • To feed the flock (Jn. 21:15-17)

  5. Purpose • You are a Christian proving your faith in hard times (1 Peter 1:6-7) • You must behave like Christians (1 Peter 1:13-16; 2:11-12; 3:13-17) • More difficult things are coming, stay the course (1 Peter 4:12-19) • Remember you are special (1 Peter 2:5, 9)

  6. Central To The Fisherman’s Gospel Is Jesus Christ • The source of hope (1:3) • Sacrificial lamb (1:19) • Precious stone (2:6) • Perfect example (2:21) • Ideal sufferer (2:23) • Sin-bearer (2:24) • Shepherd of souls (2:25) • Exalted Lord (3:22)
