  4. Textbook Standard World/Honors AP World • McDougal Littell World History: Patterns of Interactions • Standard 10th grade reading level • Accessible • Peter N. Stearns World Civilizations: The Global Experience • College level text • Challenging

  5. Similarities • Fast paced courses due to SOL and AP testing • Writing based component for all courses • Main goal is comprehension and understanding of synthesis of events and connections

  6. Work Load Standard AP World • ½ -1 hour of homework • Western focus with some patterns of interaction in non western based societies • One writing assignment per quarter • 1-3 hours of homework (varies) • Larger emphasis on broader patterns of interactions • 1-2 timed in class essays per quarter based off AP rubrics

  7. Where Does Honors 10 Fit In? • Heavy emphasis on higher level, critical thinking • Homework every night – in-depth focus on readings • More use of ancillary sources • Reading quizzes every day • One major writing assignment per quarter • Smaller writing assignments throughout each quarter

  8. Reminders • Excellent scaffolding by 9th grade teachers for 10th grade curriculum • 1st quarter struggles-summer vacation, adjustment period, new level of thinking • Expanding beyond basic recall knowledge of historical events
