Fighting Hunger on Campus Outreach: • Campus Need: • Out of 200 random students: • 36.5% reported low food security • 45.5% reported very low food security • *Data collected from SOC 3240 Sociology in poverty instructed by Dr. Brooke Kelly. • Items donated: about 5,103 • Number of individuals: 82 • Number of visits: 140 • Items given out: 2,379 Students served by the food pantry were asked to self identify how often they needed food assistance. Survey Results: Donations and Volunteers: • Events: • Food drive/ Clothing Drive • Freshman Seminar classes • Competition • Sports events Over the summer members of the community participated in surveys to provide information related to the areas of need in our area. The results of this survey gave information dealing with what day of the week, and time was best for their schedules. Based on the information collected the formation of education sessions, and hours of operation was established. • Business: • Campbell’s Soup • LumbeeGuaranty Bank • Food Pantry • Open to campus and community • 2 bags per month • Professional Clothing Closet • Open to campus and community • Items related to business attire • Service Learning Lab • Educate on topics related to interviews, Résumé building, Identity theft • Provides a more permanent solution • Goal is to educate to allow for individuals become self- sufficient • Connections with Local Non-profits: • Government subsidized housing • Food Pantries • Grants: • CPI grant from Wesley Foundation • Faculty and staff members: • Payroll deductions thru Advancement office • Tax deductions
