  3. Heat • More KE in the molecules = More Heat Energy • Heat: The amount of energy in an object’s molecules • Temperature: The speed of an object’s molecules.

  4. Increasing Heat Energy • When heat energy is added to an object, it’s temperature will rise. • How much the temperature rises depends on the object’s SPECIFIC HEAT.

  5. Specific Heat • Specific Heat is given by the variable ‘c’. • The units for specific heat are J/(kg˚C)

  6. Specific Heat • Specific heat: The amount of energy needed to raise 1kg of stuff 1˚C. • For example: It takes 4186J of energy to raise 1kg of WATER 1˚C.
