  19. Jesus the Giver In 3 years of public ministry, Jesus gave: • FOOD!

  20. Luke 9:10-17 When the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida, but the crowds learned about it and followed him. He welcomed them

  21. Luke 9:10-17 and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who needed healing. Late in the afternoon the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so they can go to the surrounding villages

  22. Luke 9:10-17 and countryside and find food and lodging, because we are in a remote place here.” He replied, “You give them something to eat.”

  23. Luke 9:10-17 They answered, “We have only five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.” (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” The

  24. Luke 9:10-17 disciples did so, and everyone sat down. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the

  25. Luke 9:10-17 disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.

  26. John 6:1-15 Some time after this, Jesus crossed to the far shore of the Sea of Galilee (that is, the Sea of Tiberias), and a great crowd of people followed him because they saw the signs he had performed by healing the sick. Then Jesus went up on a

  27. John 6:1-15 mountainside and sat down with his disciples. The Jewish Passover Festival was near. When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread for

  28. John 6:1-15 these people to eat?” He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “It would take more than half a year’s wages to buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!”

  29. John 6:1-15 Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

  30. John 6:1-15 Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they

  31. John 6:1-15 wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley

  32. John 6:1-15 loaves left over by those who had eaten. After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force,

  33. John 6:1-15 withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

  34. Give Like Jesus Jesus was THE MOST GENEROUS PERSON to ever live. He literally gave all that He was and all that He had out of a deep love for His Father and people! As His disciples, we are called to be just like Him.

  35. Give Like Jesus • Jesus will continually provide us with opportunities to give generously. • “You give them something to eat.”

  36. Give Like Jesus • The invitation to give generously is a test of our faith and trust in God. • “He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind what he was going to do.”

  37. Give Like Jesus • God loves to meet needs and do the miraculous through ANYONE who trusts and gives generously to Him. • “Here is a boy…”

  38. Give Like Jesus • Giving like Jesus is never about simple quantity. It’s about giving everything God calls YOU to give! • “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish…”

  39. Give Like Jesus • Giving like Jesus will always leave US fulfilled! • “Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the

  40. Give Like Jesus • Giving like Jesus will always leave US fulfilled! • people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.”

  41. Give Like Jesus Where to begin? • First Baptist Church • We need everyone who considers this their home church to give generously of their time, abilities and resources in order to accomplish our mission!
