  2. Welcome to LHHS! • This year’s English plan: Communication • Reading – different genres • Writing – persuasion • Listening and speaking • Research & technology – research and present

  3. Genres of Literature Novel – Of Mice and Men Short Stories -- Poe, Arabian Nights Poetry – traditional, free verse Non-fiction – to be determined! Drama – Romeo and Juliet Mythology – Greek gods & goddesses Epic – Homer’s The Odyssey

  4. Grading • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 60-69% = D • Below = F • English is a required class for graduation • 5 units X 8 semesters = 40 required units (no F’s allowed)

  5. Be Trustworthy • Computers for use as directed • No gaming, email or inappropriate sites • Loss of privileges • Personal integrity & plagiarism • Your own work—not downloads, copies or forgeries • Both parties will receive zero grades.

  6. Be courteous and respectful • Dress code, cell phone, I-pod: school policy • Clean language and notebook décor • No food, drinks, gum, etc. • Be prepared: materials, notebook, reading book • Absences must be excused • Tardies are not excused • Late work will lose points • Q & A
