  1. Overview • Road Design Group, Phase II Goals • Design the parking areas and access roads to the Troublesome Creek raft launch area. • Design the road from the Transportation Facility to the Visitor Center. • Research shuttles with alternative energy. • Provide support to Transportation Facility and Visitor Center groups. • Anything else that might come up in design process.

  2. Goal #1 • Design the parking areas and access roads to the Troublesome Creek raft launch area. • First on list due to permitting. • Researched Matanuska-Susitna Borough Code • Under section 17.55.020 Setbacks for Shorelands: Docks, piers, marinas, aircraft hangers, and boathouses may be located closer than 75 feet and over the water, provided they are not used for habitation and do not contain sanitary or petroleum fuel storage facilities. • We are planning on building a dirt road all the way to the river side for boat and passenger drop off. • Decided to build main parking/restroom are north of Troublesome Creek, because of less complicated terrain.

  3. Goal #2 • Road Design • Communicate and coordinate closely with Transportation and Visitor Center groups. • 20-25 mph, • Two lanes, 10 foot wide with a 1 foot shoulders • Grade will depend on design vehicle • Crowed road to improve drainage • 18” of sub-base • 3” of leveling course • 3” of pavement

  4. Goal #3 • Researching alternative energy shuttles • Bio-diesel picked over electric • Bio-diesel engines provide more power and torque. • Contacted Bio-diesel of Alaska, located in the Valley • Vehicles can run on normal diesel and bio-diesel • Waiting for their response on cost estimate to convert shuttles.

  5. Shuttle #1 Rocket Fuel Really Fast 7 passenger Shuttle #2 Could be converted to Bio-diesel 20 passenger
