  2. So, where does food REALLY go? • Mouth • Esophagus • Stomach • Small intestine • Large intestine • Rectum • Anus

  3. This is YOUR Mouth • It has: • Teeth • Tongue • Saliva

  4. Next comes the…..Esophagus It is really just a CONNECTING tube…..

  5. Food then plops into the Stomach! An incredibly muscular organ!

  6. Next Stop: The Small Intestine Yes, it really is about 21 FEET long!!!!!! And YES, it really is all coiled up like this!!!!

  7. The End of the Line: The LARGE intestine (+ rectum & anus) What makes it Large??? It’s wide in diameter but only 1.5 meters long. Anus

  8. So, what is a “helper” organ? • A helper organ is an organ that is important to digestion, BUT the food does not travel through there. • Liver • Pancreas • Gall bladder

  9. The Liver and Gall bladder Liver – makes Bile Gall bladder – stores bile

  10. The Pancreas • Makes enzymes that help digest • Fats • Starches • Sugars

  11. BONUS ORGAN: THE Epiglottis • Its job is to prevent food from going down into the trachea.
