  2. English Literature • Evaluated in 2 ways: • Open Books examination (2h15) 70% • Text commentary • Literary essay • Empathic task Programme: Macbeth, Things Fall Apart and 15 poems.

  3. English Literature (continued) b) Coursework 30% Students produce TWO pieces of work: literary essay empathic task 600 – 800 words each Worked on in class and corrected by teacher.

  4. First Language English Evaluated in two ways: • Reading Passages (2h) 50% - writing based on extracts - analysing how writers’ techniques - summary writing b) Directed Writing (2h) 50% - speeches - reports - dialogues - discursive essays

  5. The value of IGCSEs • Recognised in different parts of the world • An added plus on your CV • Unlike FCE it is a native speaker exam • Excellent preparation for IB/OI/CA2 in 1ère and Terminale. • For UK universities aim for A* -C

  6. Results 2006 First Language English (198 students) A* - C = 90% A* - D = 98% English Literature (200 students) A* - C = 71% A* - D = 91%
