  2. Strategic Direction • Bamford Review – Equal Lives • Bamford Action Plan 2012 – 2015 • Transforming Your Care • Strengthening the Commitment – UK Modernising L.D. Nursing Review • Greater Regulation – RQIA • Learning Disability Service Framework (33 Recommendations) • Partnership working – Community/Volunteer Sector and other statutory bodies

Service Areas • Community M.D. Team Approach • Health screening Programmes in Partnership with GPs. • Medical services (One adult consultant and the second in process of being recruited). • Clinical Psychology services (Adult and children) • Supported living units. (Trust/External providers) • Residential Homes x 3 • Floating support

Service Areas continued...... • Behaviour Teams (Adult and children) • Day Care Services 23 centres • Lakeview Hospital (Access and Treatment undergoing further configuration) • Respite Services (Under review in line with HSCB recommendations) • Host Family/Adult Placements • Domiciliary Care (review, reform and modernisation) • Direct payments with drive for Self Directed support.

  5. Challenges for Nursing • Technology dependent children who are living into adulthood – the generic acute training needed ie. NG tracheostomy, Nippy machines etc • Transition to Adult Services. • A community facing service means a reduction in the opportunities of having a hospital base as the central training point • Workforce Planning Age profile (including MHO status) of nurses leaving the service

  6. Challenges for nursing continued....... Within LD the challenge is to grow skills in the following areas and develop clearly defined integrated care pathways for our LD population • Client group living longer – area of dementia care especially aging down syndrome population who develop dementia from age 45 onwards • Forensics – need for specialist staff as we are seeing more and more people within our LD service who have a forensic background

  7. Challenges for Nursing continued...... • Palliative care and support • Non medical prescribing • Therapeutic interventions/psychological therapies • Dual diagnosis – LD diagnosis MH diagnosis, LD and Autism , borderline cases i.e people who are more able but still require support • Working through interfaces with acute, mental health, older people etc
