  1. Fossil Fuels

  2. Fuel • A substance that burns in oxygen to produce heat

  3. Fire triangle

  4. Fossil Fuels • Formed from the remains of organisms that lived millions of years ago • They are composed of mainly hydrogen and carbon and are called hydro carbons

  5. Hydrocarbons. • These are compounds that contain hydrogen and carbon only. • They burn to produce carbondioxide and water.

  6. To examine the products of combustion of a hydrocarbon

  7. The greenhouse effect • Heat from the sun is trapped by Carbon dioxide and other gases. This causes the temperature of the Earth to rise.

  8. Global warming is a result of this greenhouse effect

  9. Acid rain • Sulfur and Nitrogen, emited gases from burning fossil fuels and car exhausts, all dissolve in rainwater making it acidic.

  10. Sulfuric Acid – Sulfur dioxide produced when we burn fossil fuels. It dissolves in rainwater to make sulfuric acid • Nitric acid – Nitrogen produced by car exhausts dissolves in water vapour to form Nitric acid

  11. PREVENTION OF GLOBAL WARMING AND ACID RAIN??

  12. How?!
