  3. What is anaphylaxis? A severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction.

  4. Common causesof anaphylaxis: Foods allergies: Peanuts Tree nuts Shellfish Fish Other allergens: Latex Bee stings Antibiotics or medications

  5. Symptoms of anaphylaxis: [When to use an Epi-Pen] When a person exhibits one of the following: • skin, nose, mouth or gastrointestinal symptoms AND • difficulty breathing such as wheezing, or • decrease in blood pressure Or at least two of the following: • skin symptoms or lip swelling • decreased blood pressure • gastrointestinal symptoms

  6. Epinephrine must be given as a “shot” • Dispensed as a self or auto-injector • Must be given as soon as possible • Delay in treatment can be fatal Why epinephrine? This medication can reverse symptoms immediately.
