    6. Objectives of Training To assist administrators in identifying resources for hiring adult education teachers To provide adult education teachers with the knowledge needed to understand the needs of their students, to correctly use resources, and to properly document student progress

This is often done in the workplace, or through “extension” or “continuing education’ courses at secondary schools, or at a College or University. A certified instructor holding a state license or community college board of trustees certification A person dedicated to assisting adults in achieving their goals Pass the GED Earn the High School Diploma VPI Certificate Learn to speak English Pursue other immediate or long range educational objectives The presenter may need to explain each of the Adult Ed Offerings GED: General Educational Development Test. This is a test for people who did not finish high school. It does not require a student passing the FCAT. Students who pass the test are awarded a Florida High School Diploma based on the GED. High School Diploma: Adult students enroll in high school classes that they have not completed. They must pass the FCAT. Upon completion of 24 credits in required categories and passing the FCAT, a standard high school diploma issued from the state of Florida is given VPI: Vocational Preparatory Instruction: Students desiring to enter a Career and Technical Education Program who are deficient in skills and scores needed to successfully complete a program may enroll in these classes to improve their reading, math, and language skills in order to successfully complete a program. AEL ( ESOL): English classes taught to speakers of other languages in order for the student to become proficient in speaking English. Recruiting Teachers K-12 Resources Contact principals at local schools for potential candidates Check substitute teacher rosters Locate recently retired educators who may desire part time work. Community College Resources --Respond to Human Resources applications --Request referrals from colleagues --Advertise in local newspapers --Post job openings on college website --Network with associates When recruiting from the elementary schools be mindful of what subject areas are to be taught. Elementary teachers are excellent for literacy programs and lower level ABE students. It is usually more effective to hire middle and high school teachers to teach the Pre-GED and GED classes. The level of math and language skills used at the 6-12 level are needed in these classes. Seeking a balance of teachers strong in math and language is vital. Reading specialists teachers are a special need in adult education classes today.When recruiting from the elementary schools be mindful of what subject areas are to be taught.
