Cross-sector Collaboration and Strategic Partnership (NGOs/ Third Sector) • Cross-organization cooperation: • HKCS Project SASA to enhance social capitals in SSP community (e.g. joint carnival, “loving SSP shop network”, “loving SSP poverty alleviation design competition”) • Joint efforts for anti-racial discrimination at Friendly Parade

Cross-sector Collaboration and Strategic Partnership(NGOs/ Third Sector) • SA Concern Group (IHRF) • Break racial barrier to jointly run “cross-religion” festival celebration event among SA Muslims, Hindus & Chinese • Join hands to mobilize members to share views to government & LegCo members on “anti-racial discrimination consultation” workshop for racial equality • Assist in their leadership building through co-organizing events and funding application support

SSP Islamic Centre • Join hands to break religious & racial barriers to let our Chinese volunteers as buddies teaching Muslim kids Cantonese & understand Chinese culture • Welcome our volunteers to pay friendly visit to their Centre for religious & cultural understanding and racial harmony building • A central place to promote our community work to SA Muslims in SSP

Cross-sector Collaboration(School Networks) • NCS schools Li Cheng Uk primary school: • Conduct volunteer training in 9 months for students to step out in community so as to learn serving and exchanging with the homeless & Chinese scouts, partly run by our volunteers Delia & California sec. schools: • Invite principal/teachers to make public speeches and mobilize students for volunteer ambassador training & deployment in dancing & carnival

Sch. & YMCA College of Cont’d Ed. • Also build up local school network to encourage student volunteers break racial gap by teaching SA kids performing dance with fun and running racial harmony activities with them

Cross-sector Collaboration(Government, Councilors & Media) A) Government: • Funding & direction from CIIF/ HWFB • Opinions channeled to RRU & HAD/ HAB B) Councilors: • Views channeled to LegCo members & district councilors C) Media: • Arranging members to participate in social affairs like press interviews (e.g. RTHK, press) for public awareness & racial equality

Cross-sector Collaboration(Business Networks) • Li & Fung Trading Ltd.: • As a caring company, Li & Fung shares corporate social responsibilities by organizing volunteer team running program to SA & Chinese kids for fun & cultural understanding with racial harmony. • Cultural sensitivity training conducted by staff to them beforehand

Cross-sector Collaboration(Business Networks) B) DHL Express Ltd. • As a caring company, corporate volunteers will transfer their logistic knowledge and interviewing skills to our unemployed SA & Chinese members for better employability c) Horizon Suite Hotel • Provide a channel for SA job placement as hotel attendant, after completing our hotel housekeeping training

Cross-sector Collaboration(Business Networks) c) SA and Chinese Shops: • 14 shops have joined “Loving SSP Shop Network” offering 5% to 30% discounts (e.g. SA grocery & restaurants, Chinese medicine & electronics) to SA & Chinese members of two agencies for mutual support & economic activity development in SSP. In return, the shops would get more customers from us for mutual benefits

Recognition to Volunteers and Caring Community Partners • Volunteer Ambassador Certification • “10 outstanding volunteers of the quarter” published in coming quarterly newsletter • Yearly recognition ceremony to outstanding caring community volunteers, partners & organizations, nominated by staff & members

Gradual Changes on Social Capital Investment • Individual Level: • Attitudes/ values gradually changed from receiving help (service receiver) to giving help (service giver as volunteer) • More capacity building through employment, language, social exposure, leadership & volunteer training • From social segregation to stepping out in community to interact and understand each other regardless of races and religions (more cross-cultural & cross-religion interactions among Chinese & SA) • More relationships & trust building for mutual support • Community Level: • From disconnected operation to cross-collaboration with NGOs, community groups & business sector (more cross-organization co-operations) • From mutually excluding to mutual help by having more mutual supportive groups and networks • From dependence to contribution by having more volunteer hours and groups in community • More informal leaders coming up to help each other • More economic activities or growth through job placement and “Loving SSP Shop Network”
