  2. The mission of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is to provide high quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care through leadership in medical practice, education, and research. Services are provided through an integrated health care delivery system to residents of Los Angeles County regardless of ability to pay.

Harbor-UCLA Physical Site is dedicated to clinical, educational, and research activities • Acres: 72 • Total Building space: ~1,000,000 square feet equally divided into: • Eight-story acute care facility completed in 1963 • Complex of one-story building trailers and wooden; many of which pre-date the hospital and are used primarily as research laboratories and clinics

Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute (LA BioMed) • Leading independent, nonprofit biomedical research institute • Research partnership with Harbor-UCLA since 1952 • 950 employees; 700 on the Harbor Campus • Partnership has generated novel diagnostic tests, vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and delivery system innovations • Provides community services, including childhood immunization and nutritional assistance • Participates in training of MD and PhD scientists • Affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

The Surgery/ER Replacement Project is critical to improving Harbor’s clinical services and structural amenities • Adds 190,300 square feet to the hospital • 1st Floor – ER/Trauma treatment area • 2nd Floor – 16 operating room suites with surgical support space • New 8 story elevator tower • 3 level, 544 space parking structure • New vehicle entrance at Carson Street • Opens Mid 2013
