  2. Exercise 1 BEFORE YOU WATCH What are some of the reasons people borrow money from the banks? What are some of the differences among the individual banks in your community? 3. Would you like to borrow money from the bank? What are the requiements you would need to meet in order to qualify for a loan? 4. Besides banks, what other kinds of financial services do people use?

  3. WHILE YOU WATCH Exercise 2 Are these statements TRUE or FALSE? 1. Financial services in Britain are similar to those in the Czech Republic. 2. There are leasing companies in the UK that will help you finance your car but it is difficult to get approval. 3. The different banks in the UK offer different conditions for different clients. 4. The clients cannot get the best conditions because the dealer doesn´t know them. 5. It used to take two to three weeks in the UK before you could actually take your car home. 6. The speaker started his own business because he didn’t want to work for anyone else. 7. Financial brokerage is a service that works through the banks to offer best deals to clients.

  15. Exercise 5 GROUP DISCUSSION: What are some of your impressions of financial brokerage? What particular skills would you need to work as a financial broker? Since the market is changing daily, what kinds of skills would you need to keep up with a constantly changing flow of information? As a group, brainstorm and come up with a list of ‘job skill requirements’ a financial broker needs to possess and demonstrate on the job. RESEARCH: Compare your list to this article outlining financial skill sets for employees. Exercise 5 ROLE PLAY • In a small group, role play a job applicant going to Slevomat and applying for a job as a financial broker. • You don’t have previous experience in the field but you want to convince the board who is interviewing you, that you possess all of the necessary skills besides math and analytical abilities to be successful. • Create a list of questions the board would ask and answers. Prepare and present your scene to the group.

Exercise 5 REFLECT As a whole group, discuss which questions were realistic for a job interview. • Which candidates would realistically be successful in this particular employment? • As financial services is one of the world’s largest employers, is this an area you are interested in pursuing for a career?
