  1. Multiplication Using Manipulatives & Algorithms for Whole-Number Multiplication

  2. Repeated Addition Build the following problems with the base 10 blocks using repeated addition. Draw a sketch of your work below. 7 x 12 12 Algorithm 12 12 12 12 12 +12 84

  3. Video: Area & Array Model with Partial Products Algorithm • Video with manipulatives along with array model and partial products algorithm

  4. Partial Products Algorithm for multiplication: • Break apart numbers according to the place value of each digit. • Multiply each digit according to its place value to obtain partial products. • Add the partial products to find the final product.

  5. Complete the following problems using the array model and show the partial products algorithm: 23 X 48 356 x 23 Solutions are on the next two slides

  6. 23 x 48 23 x 48 24 160 120 + 800 1104 800 + 160 + 120 + 24 = 1104

  7. 356 x 23 356 x 23 18 150 900 120 1000 + 6000 8188 6000 + 1000 + 120 + 900 + 150 + 18 = 8188

  8. Video: Lattice Approach • Video link to lattice approach Try 456 x 45 using the lattice approach. Solution is on the next slide.

  9. 456 x 45 1 1 2 1 2 2 0 6 0 4 2 2 3 0 5 0 5 2 0 Answer: 20,520
