  1. How do we define the personality traits of a hero? A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.-----Dictionary.com In my opinion a hero is someone who goes over and beyond the job they are given or not give and does it with no gain for themselves, for others.

  2. How do the setting, conflicts, and antagonists influence the development of heroes? FDR’s contraction of polio in Campobello Island, New Brunswick at the age of 30 in away almost made him stronger not in body but in spirit. He courageously tried to walk again but it was not possible and instead he established a foundation for people with polio at Warm Springs Georgia. He also started the March of Dimes which eventually funded an effective vaccine (Biography of Franklin D Roosevelt). James H. Cox, the democratic parties nominee, chose FDR as his running mate because of his family name (EBSCOhost: ROOSEVELT,Franklin Delano)

  3. How is a hero looked at by different people? In his time FDR was not looked at as a hero by everyone. Political views played a big part in why a person might like him and why a person may not. He was a democrat so, this led to people on the other view point to not like him. Further, FDR was the consummate "party man"; no one questions his patriotism, but there is merit to the charge that his agenda was less about doing what was best for the nation and more about undercutting Republicans and making the Democratic Party the permanent governing majority.(Grand Valley State University)

  4. How do various cultures reward or recognize their heroes? FDR was recognized in a way no other man has ever been recognized, he was the first president who served 4 terms (Biography of Franklin D Roosevelt). Franklin Roosevelt is widely regarded as one of America's greatest presidents. (Grand Valley State University )

  5. How does war affect the decisions that a hero makes? FDR did not want to bring America into a war, but stay in the time of isolationism, but the defeat of France brought a change and that change was to go to war and protect America’s allies (Biography of Franklin D Roosevelt). Second, he led a reluctant nation through the most devastating war in human history by actions that would minimize the war's negative effects on the U.S., yet maximize our nation's international leadership (Grand Valley State University)

  6. What mistakes did the hero make and how did the hero fix these mistakes? On a personal level also, FDR could be duplicitous, as when he lied to Eleanor about the status of his love affair with Lucy Mercer, which supposedly had ended in 1918; recall that it was Lucy Mercer who was at FDR's side when he passed away on April 12, 1945. This was the one thing that FDR that was not heiroic in any manor. (Grand Valley State University ) Also, argument has raged over Roosevelt's economic IQ; more than a few economists and historians have questioned whether his policies actually made the Depression worse. (Grand Valley State University )

  7. What strengths did the hero have? FDR possessed the charisma needed to lead a nation. FDR also had the self confidence and sense of responsibility a president should have. FDR had a strong character since he pushed through the fact that he had polio and led a nation. FDR had the political skills need to push the United States through the Great Depression. (Grand Valley State University)

  8. Who inspired the hero to do what he did? The main reason why FDR decided to take a political path was because of his cousin Theodore Roosevelt, who was also a president (eNotes). After being educated at home by private tutors, FDR entered Groton, an elite private school in Massachusetts, in 1896. Endicott Peabody, the head of the school, became an important influence in FDR’s life instilling in him a strong sense of civic responsibility. (The George Washington University )

  9. How does a hero leave a legacy and what is the heroes legacy? The relationship between the national government and the people changed drastically. The government took on a greater role in the everyday social and economic lives of the people. The New Deal programs of FDR also created a liberal political alliance made up of labor unions, blacks and other ethnic and religious minorities, intellectuals, the poor, and some farmers. These groups became the backbone of the Democratic Party for decades following the Depression. As the federal government grew with new agencies and reform attempts, the cost of government increased. The grow of the government continued following the New Deal. (yahoo/education & reference)

  10. What did this hero do first unlike any other hero? One thing that FDR started that presidents after followed was a weekly address over the radio. These were called Fireside Chats and were listened to by millions of people. (Grand Valley State University)

  11. Thesis synthesizes the argument your paper will support can be defended with evidenceis specificis originalis provocative or unique Throughout time America has never seen a leader, a hero, as prominent as FDR, who was honored with the most terms served in the history of the United States by proving his leadership skills to a nation.

  12. Topic Proposal What is your topic? What essential question(s) are you planning on addressing? What subtopics are you planning on exploring to develop your topic? What conclusions are you reaching about your topic? My topic is on FDR. Some of the essentials questions I will be answering are what a hero is, why does a hero make mistakes / how there mistakes affect them, how does a hero’s background affect the person they became, and how does the setting of an event affect decisions the hero makes. Some of the subtopics I will break the topics into are the affects of Polio on FDR, the affects of decisions do to war while FDR was in office, his plans for repairing the economy, and his adversaries. From the research that I have reviewed and learned from I have come to the conclusion that my original idea, which was, is FDR a hero, and yes I believe that is true.
