  3. Was ist eine Festplatte? • Eine Festplatte ist ein Laufwerk • Die Daten werden magnetisch auf mehreren, im Gehäuse untergebrachten, Scheiben gespeichert • Sie bietet auf die Daten direkten Zugriff • Es gibt externe und interne Festplatten

Allgemeine Informationen • Der Schreib/-Lesearm zeichnet Daten im binären Format mit Nullen und Einsen auf. • Speicherdichte von bis zu 20 Gigabit pro Quadratzentimeter • Zugriffszeiten von ca. 12 bis 14 Millisekunden • Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit: 50 MB/sec. • Zwischenspeicher: 2 bis 8 Megabyte • Externe Festplatten werden größtenteils per USB-Stecker mit dem PC verbunden.   6. Historie • Idee gab es schon im 19. Jh. • Erste Festplatte: 1956 von IBM • Der Amerikaner Oberlin Smith versuchte elektrische Daten auf einem stück Draht abzuspeichern (1878) • Valdemar Poulsen versuchte in Dänemark etwas magnetisch auf einem um eine Trommel gewickelten Draht abzuspeichern (1878), diente ab 1889 als Telefonanrufantworter • Vorläufer der Festplatte war die Magnettrommel (ab 1932)

  7. Zoll der Scheiben • 3,5 Zoll:1 Terabyte, also 1000 Gigabyte. • 2,5 Zoll: 200 Gigabyte • 1,8 Zoll: 80 Gigabyte • 1 Zoll und weniger: 12 Gigabyte

  8. Festplattenkapazität • 1956: Erste Festplatte von IBM mit 5 MB. • 1981: 5,25 Zoll Festplatte mit 10 MB von Seagate ST-412 (Aus dem IBM PC XT) • 1992: 2 GB Digital (DEC) und Seagate • 2009: 3,5 Zoll Festplatte mir 2TB Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EADS
