  2. Outcomes Participants will: • gain an overview of the data-sets in the SEN/LDD SEF 2008, with a focus on the progress and attainment tables; • understand the two new SEN national indicators and be able to plan for improvement.

  6. Access to SEF • The SEN/LDD self-evaluation framework can be downloaded from www.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/primary/features/inclusion/sen/self-eval • LA personalised version with LA data was sent to each LA SEN/LDD Lead Contact in January. • SEF can be accessed through National Strategies LA.

  7. Assessing LA performance – National Indicators (NIs) • 1200 indicators reduced to single set of 198 NIs – 04/08 • Annual publication of LA performance on each NI • Local Strategic Partnerships to agree up to 35 NIs as part of new Local Area Agreements (LAAs) • Plus 17 statutory targets on attainment and early years • Three SEN NIs – one for 26 weeks assessment, two for the SEN/non-SEN gap (attainment: KS2 and GCSEs)

National Indicator 104 – SEN/non-SEN gap • Rationale ‘to encourage improvement in the attainment of children with SEN’ • Achievement of KS2 English and mathematics threshold • Measure – % gap between pupils identified at start of KS2 as having SEN who achieve the expected L4 or above in both English and mathematics at end of KS2 and their peers (pupils not identified as having SEN) • ‘SEN’ – School Action (SA) and SA Plus and statement of SEN

  9. NI 104 – % attaining at least L4 in English and mathematics at KS2 73.5 83.3 27.7 55.6 • Good performance is typified by a lower percentage point gap between pupils identified as having SEN and their peers. • Discussion point – what is this data telling us?

NI 105 – SEN/non-SEN gap • Rationale ‘to encourage improvement in the attainment of children with SEN’ • Achieving at least 5 A*-C GCSE including English and mathematics • Measure – % gap between pupils identified at start of KS4 as having SEN who achieve at least 5 A*-C GCSEs including English and mathematics at end of KS4 and their peers (pupils not identified as having SEN) • ‘SEN’ – School Action (SA) and SA Plus and statement of SEN

  11. NI 105 – % attaining 5 A*-C GCSEs 2007 • Good performance is typified by a lower percentage point gap between pupils identified as having SEN and their peers. • Table activity – 15 minutes
