  4. What does this Venn diagram show about the similarities between Jesus and Dracula? Does this suggest they are the same- certainly not. What is does it does show is a unique way of viewing both subjects.

  5. Explore comparisons between central characters using a Venn diagram Compare: • Motives • Choices (things they say and do) • Conflicts they face • Character Qualities • Character Flaws Abigail John Parris

  6. Strategies • Venn Diagrams can be a useful visual organizer. • Another alternative is to create an idea cluster or a list about one of the characters and then see which items on the list you can connect to other characters.

  7. Comparing Proctor to Parris Parris Feels threatened when others challenge his authority Motivated by pride and insecurity Seems to lack the ability to see his own flaws Seeks outside assistance to restore order Does not understand the motives of the girls Is preoccupied with his own status in community Wants to be acknowledged and compensated

  8. How does this compare to Proctor? • Make a similar list for John Proctor and see if you can connect the two lists. • What surprising connections do you see? • What are the central points of difference? You can start with the little things: one is a reverend and one is a farmer. Then, go DEEPER to examine the motives and choices they make. Analyze their “character qualities” or “character flaws”.
