  2. Who are the lifeguards? • A voluntary organisation • A diverse mixture of members from the community • The oldest lifeguard club in the country (1933) • The main focal point for residents and visitors for Southsea seafront

What we do to help others • Volunteer members who: • Provide RLSS training for lifeguarding • Protect Southsea beaches • Provide first aid to the general public • Provide an inshore rescue service • Promote water safety to the local community • Provide a declared facility to HM Coastguard • Provide safety cover and support for public events

  4. Time Commitment Average logged time per season >2700 hours This does not include time spent: • Training • Teaching • Fundraising • Maintenance • Meetings • Administration • Travelling

  10. Lifeguard Headquarters • A base of operations • Communications, search coordination • Public focal point • for information, and • those in distress • Enough equipment storage for current members • Patrol boat storage • main boat at Fort Cumberland • Small lifeguard changing rooms

  11. Current Fundraising Projects

  12. New Headquarters Current Headquarters • Moved 1986, making way for new Pyramids complex • Conversion from deckchair storage building • Conversion a compromise due to: • planning restrictions at the time • existing structure. • Anticipated life span 10~15 years • well past replace by date.

What would a new headquarters do • New rescue headquarters in the heart of the Southsea seafront redevelopment area. • Teaching facilities • Extended season opening times • Focal point for all water safety/water based activity for the Southsea community. • Centralisation of equipment reducing launch and response time • A community centre for local groups, youth clubs and schools.

  14. New Rescue Mobile • Replacement of Toyota Hilux • Near end of economic life • Looking for sponsors or contacts

  15. The Fundraising Shop • Update current beach stall • Recruit volunteers to run and man stall during opening hours • Increases public focus • Increases Lifeguards time on beach • Investigate and sell new items
