  2. What is a family? • Group of people related by • Blood • Adoption • Marriage Family

  3. Nuclear family = Mother/Father living with natural or adopted children Married couple = Husband / Wife (no children) Single parent family = 1 parent with natural or adopted children Nontraditional family = Unrelated people who live together (no marriage) Types of Family

  4. 5. Blended family = Family created by remarriage; include step parent and/or step children 6. Extended family = Family of immediate members along with grandparents (or others) 7. Foster family = Temporary family issued by the courts Types of Family

  5. What is a family identity? • A unique sense of belonging together • Distinct from other people / families • What rituals do you have as a family? • How do you celebrate special occasions? • How do you spend time together? • How do you communicate with your family? Family Identity

  6. You must sit back to back at all times! Partner A will draw first (You will have 1 min.) Partner B may not communicate during this time. After 1 min., Partner A will describe their picture to Partner B Partner B has 3 min. to replicate the drawing. Communication Practice
