  1. Acts 16:14-15

  2. INFANT BAPTISM B. Some claim Scriptural authority for it. C. Let us examine and see… (Acts 17:11). Intro: A. Catholics, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc. practice infant baptism.

  3. INFANT BAPTISM A. “As to the ground if it: If infants are guilty of original sin, then they are proper subjects of baptism, seeing, in the ordinary way, they cannot be saved, unless this is washed away by baptism. It has already been proved, that this original stain cleaves to every child of man, and thereby they are children of wrath, and liable to damnation. …Infants need to be washed from original sin; therefore they are proper subjects of baptism.” (Wesley’s Works Vol. 2. P. 16) I. WHY DO IT? INHERITED SIN!

  4. INFANT BAPTISM B. “It is certain our church supposes that all who are baptized in their infancy are at the same time born again; and it is allowed that the whole office of baptism of infants proceeds upon this supposition.” (Wesley’s Sermons Vol. 1 p. 405) C. Original Sin Is NOT True (Ro. 5:12; Jn. 8:34)! Born in sin (Ps. 51:5; Acts 2:8)? Inherited (Jer. 13:23 “accustomed”)? I. WHY DO IT? INHERITED SIN!

  5. INFANT BAPTISM A. Cornelius’ “Household” (Acts 11:14)? Had to “hear” (Acts 10:33; 11:14)! Also had to believe (Acts 10:43)! Also had to repent (Acts 11:18)! Can infants do all this??? II. ARGUMENTS CONSIDERED: B. Lydia’s “Household” (Acts 16:15)? Heard (Acts 16:14)! Understood & obeyed (16:14-15)! Can infants do this???

  6. INFANT BAPTISM C. Is Matt. 28:19 authority for it? Disciples are to be baptized… A disciple is a LEARNER… A disciple must 1stBELIEVE(Mk 16:15-16). II. ARGUMENTS CONSIDERED: D. Samaritans (Acts 8:3-13)? “Men and women” (8:3). “Heard” (8:6). “Believed” (8:12). “Men and women” (8:12).

  7. INFANT BAPTISM E. Jailer’s Household (Acts 16:30-34)? Told to believe (16:31). Had to hear (16:32). Was baptized “having believed” (16:34). II. ARGUMENTS CONSIDERED: F. Crispus’ Household + Corinthians? Believers (Acts 18:8)! G. Infants in the church? “Tell it to the church” (Matt. 18:15-17)!

  8. INFANT BAPTISM A. No positive authority for infant baptism! B. All attempts to prove it from Scripture are reading into the text what is not there! C. Infant baptism is based on a false doctrine! CONCLUSION: DO YOU BELIEVE? WILL YOU REPENT? WILL YOU BE BAPTIZED?
