  4. TheRole About TheRole • All issues including finance,propriety, governance, resource management, staff and volunteers are ultimately the responsibility of the CEO/Accounting Officer. The CEO directly orindirectly • through his/her staff reports is accountable for what happens in theorganisation. • Oversee a number of joint ventures and partnerships with private sector organisations and for relationships with critical forestry sector organisations. • The Chief ExecutiveOfficer will provide leadership, strategy and direction to Forestry England. • KeyAccountabilities • Directly accountable to Parliament for the organisation, its funds, staff and physical resources. • Leading the relationship between FEand the devolvedadministrations. • Develop an organisational culture where all are included, respected and able to thrive, where the organisation is fit for the future, focused upon high levels of performance and efficiency. • This role requires regular travel across England and some overnight stays are required. • Ensuring that all forestryactivities are legally and policy compliant and that the Public Forest Estate (PFE)retains UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS) certification which in effect gives the organisation its ‘licence to operate’ and trade sustainably managed timber. • Ensuring an excellent system of corporate governance is maintained throughout FE, including an effective corporate performance and risk management system. • Oversee the development and delivery of an ongoing programme of capital works. • Ensure Government commitments to maintain the size of the PFE are honoured and keep it in trust for the nation whilst seeking opportunities for new acquisitions and woodland creation. • Lead executive on the FE Board, working with the Chair and a broad range of experienced Non-Executives to give strategic direction to FE in delivering on the Government’s objectives for the nation’s forests. • As a key member of the Department’s senior leadership team, the Chief Executive is expected to play an active role in the ongoing corporate management and development of the organisation.   6. Saary&Benefits Salary AndBenefits • Thisincludes: • 25 days annual leave on entry, increasing on a sliding scale to 30 days after 5years’ service. However, this is a national role so there will be opportunities to work flexibly from other locations in England. Can I apply if I am notcurrently a civilservant? Yes.
