  1. The Rosary The Rosary is a very ancient Catholic prayer. St. Dominic, who was born in 1170 encouraged all his monks to learn the Rosary, and even before his time, there are records of ‘Aves’ (Hail Marys) being prayed with beads in honour of Our Lady. For hundreds and hundreds of years, Catholics have carried their Rosaries all their lives long. More than a dozen complete sets of Rosaries were found on the wreck of Henry V111’s warship, Mary Rose, when it was brought up from the depths of the sea! Those sailors must have carried their Rosaries in secret, for it was against the law for many years after the Reformation in England for anyone to own Rosary Beads. The beads are arranged in decades – sets of ten beads. We say one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, then the Glory Be. As we pray, we think of the different Mysteries.

  2. The First Joyful Mystery The Annunciation

  3. The Second Joyful Mystery…. The Visitation

  4. The Third Joyful Mystery… The Nativity

  5. The Fourth Joyful Mystery The Presentation

  6. The Fifth Joyful Mystery. . . The Finding in the Temple

  7. Queen of the holy Rosary Oh bless us as we pray, And offer thee our roses In garlands day by day While from our father’s garden With loving hearts and bold, We gather to thine honour Buds white and red and gold.
