Ground Rules • Understand that we are all learning • Respect Others • Be open to talking about difficult topics • Debate vs. Dialogue • Present your real self • Speak from your own experiences • Let people complete their thoughts • It’s ok to have “ouch” moments • None of us are experts • Nonverbal reactions are important “We are here to learn, not believe.”

  4. Context • Some identities are assigned to us by OTHERS: • This can include: • Family Background • Current Experiences • Future Experiences • Sociocultural Factors • Career Decisions

  5. Context These lead to identities like: Race Social Class Sexual Orientation Religion Culture/Ethnicity Gender

  6. Many Identities Allow each line to reflect an identity. Place a dot on each line to reflect how much you think about it on a daily basis. Dots closer to your core mean you think about that identity a lot. Dots further from your core mean you don’t think about that identity a lot.
