The Art of Overthinking It

The Art of Overthinking It. With your host Erik. The Ford F-150. Why’s it named that? It’s a big, rugged, utilitarian truck. A classy name wouldn’t fit it, and an overly macho name would embarrass a true man – it would seem like it’s trying too hard.

  1. The Art of Overthinking It With your host Erik

  2. The Ford F-150 • Why’s it named that? • It’s a big, rugged, utilitarian truck. A classy name wouldn’t fit it, and an overly macho name would embarrass a true man – it would seem like it’s trying too hard. • The name, like the truck, is functional, unspectacular. • Ford’s trusting that its performance will imbue that letter and those numbers with a unique meaning.

  3. How come other buildings don’t have steeples? • Churches use it for visibility, but every public building wants visibility. You don’t see a McDonald’s with a steeple. • It reaches towards the heavens. • The slope mimics Jesus’s journey up Calvary, where the crucifix awaited him.

  4. Martin Luther King Jr. had a pillow fight in his hotel room on the day of his assassination. • Makes the assassination even more tragic; it’s such a mundane, specific detail. • Fits perfectly with our image of King. Even when he’s being violent, it’s peaceful in a way. He fights with words and feathers, not bullets.
