  2. What is mercantilism? • Economic theory that says a nation must increase trade to become more powerful. • A country has the right to use its colonies to get rich.

  3. Mercantilism • Britain saw the colonies as just a way to make money. It used this theory to control all trade with the 13 colonies to its benefit. • To make as much money as possible, England passed a series of laws called the Navigation Acts.
