  5. Summary of the project We invite students around the world to make *something interesting *somethingartistic *somethinguseful out of 6 ordinary objects which we specify.

  6. Our six objects are: • One plastic shopping bag • One pencil • One plastic bottle • One rubber band • One sheet of paper • One paper clip What a cool challenge !

  7. Aim Itwould be most interesting to see the diversityof designs that emerge from around the worldand to hear about how each group of students from different age groups and culturesapproached this design challenge and theirresulting designs.

  8. Results • gain a better understanding of the design and creative idea generation process by using it to produce their school design. • gain a better appreciation for the diverse ways people can be creative and learn new ways to tap into their innate creativity. • gain experience making decisions and resolving conflicts in producing a team design. • learn to see their world and the ordinary objects in it from multiple perspectives and hopefully will apply this enhanced sensitivity beyond this project. • learn about different cultures by hearing how other schools from other cultures approached this design challenge and by comparing the resulting designs from each school. • begin to change their mindset about creativity and invention from a fixed to a growth model (creativity and inventiveness are muscles that everyone can exercise to enhance their capacity).

  9. Development *Participating schools indicate their interest by October 1, 2010. *Schools design and build their creations during October *By November 30th, post pictures and narratives (written or video) describing their design and how they approached the challenge. Theywillbeposted on the project blog *We then host a series of Skype video calls to discuss differences and similarities in how we approached the design challenge and discuss how our designs reflect our culture.
