  1. SAMPLE ARTICLE SUMMARYfrom “Women still facing a gap” 8/25/2010 SHT There are fewer women in places of political power in the U.S. than in most other developed countries. Most of our elected representatives are men. Still, this year there quite a few political races where women are defeating men for elected government positions. Some of these women are very outspoken and aggressive, which many voters seem to like, so far. We won’t know how many women win the political offices they seek until the election in November.

  2. NEWS ARTICLE Group members, decide on how you will read the article: take turns out reading loud? All read silently? Read out loud in unison? Decide on how to understand unfamiliar vocabulary: guess? use context clues & word analysis? look all words up in dictionary? Ask the teacher? Decide on how to discuss the information: stop to ask/answer questions after each paragraph or so? Read the whole thing, and then discuss? Proceed with reading the article based on decisions. Decide on how to summarize the article’s main point(s). Write a summary of the article in your composition notebook.
