Regular updates. Art/DT • Animal print – experiment with colour/pattern to create wacky creatures. • Animal masks • Drawing animals in different mediums. • Design/create a home for a creature, considering all it's needs. • 3D Model of a Safari creature. PSHE/Philosophy • Is it OK to keep pets?. • Do animals have feelings or show emotions? • Is it OK to keep animals in a Zoo? Out of the classroom learning: • Growing and looking after plants on the allotment/using KS1 planters. • Minibeast study • Creating minibeast habitats. PE • “The Lion King” Dance and movement. • Create games linked to Animals. Science • Life processes • Habitatsand Adaptation • Life cycles Music • Creating jungle soundscapes. • Animal themed songs RE • Religions that worship animals. • Bible stories with animals. Geography • Compare locations for different animals habitats. • Continents/countries and their locations around the world. • Geographical features and their importance (E.g Rivers) • Create a plan for the allotment using a key. ICT • Data handling – 2count. • Researching animals. • Using paint package to create animals with camouflage • 2create – Create presentations about animals. • Watch African savannah web cams. History Animals close to extinction and how this has changed over time. Outcome: Parents' Safari. Children to plan and set up a 'Safari' for their parents. Children to be Safari leaders and take parents around, giving talks about animals (3D Sculptures). Hook: Children to enter classroom ready for a staged 'Safari'. Children given clipboards/binoculars and taken on 'Safari' around the school grounds. Children record 'animals' (pictures) they see.
