Brief History • Flinders University, SA was established in 1966. • Flinders University takes its name from English navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the southern Australian coastline in 1802. • A public university • Flinders is ranked in the Top 50 under 50 year old universities in the world (QS Rankings, 2012).

STUDENTS and STAFF • In 1966, Flinders had 90 staff and 400 students enrolled in less than 10 courses. • Flinders has now around 2100 staff, 16 500 students, almost 300 courses, and over 55 000 Alumni. Research expertise and popular programs • Strong linkages among Research and School programs at Flinders: • Water and environment: National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training, Lincoln Marine Science Centre, Centre for Marine BioproductsDevelopment, and; • Molecular Science and Technology- Centre for NanoScale Science and Technology, Molecular Technologies research cluster. • Many other research centres cooperate closely with respective school programs. • Disability Studies - Flinders is the only university that offers university level undergraduate qualification focused on disability and community rehabilitation needs in SA. The university also offers Graduate certificates, Master of Disability Studies and PhD. • TESOL- Teaching English as Second Language- 2 years program • Social Work-Flinders offers three distinct Masters programs in social work: the Master of Social Work ( by course work), the Master of Arts (Social Work) which is a research degree and the Master of Social Work (Advanced). Different pathways are available depending on your prior educational experience.

Postgraduate entry requirements Academic • You must have successfully completed one of the following: For entry into Masters degrees • The equivalent of an Australian bachelors degree with second class honours or better (four years of study) undertaken in the field of study you intend to pursue in your proposed masters program.  Lesser qualifications are unlikely to be accepted without some qualifying studies or relevant work experience related to the proposed area of study. For entry into Doctor of Medicine • A Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from an Australian university or its equivalent qualification. For entry into Doctor of Philosophy • A masters degree from an Australian university or its equivalent. In some cases, proof of excellent academic performance in a four-year honors degree may be sufficient. The masters or honors degree must have been undertaken in the field of study you wish to pursue. English language requirements : • Overall score 6.5 by IELTS (academic); Overall score 580 by paper based TOEFL; 90 by internet based TOEFL, • Please check for English language requirements of the school or program
