Aim of alumni associations in South Asia Associations aim to be: • Self-motivated • energy and enthusiasm comes from alumni because they want an association • Self-directed • alumni decide priorities for their associations • Self-sustaining • alumni set realistic, achievable targets Australia Awards in South Asia www.southasiascholarships.org

Purpose of the Coordinating Group The Coordinating Group represents all Sri Lankan alumni. • It starts the process to establish an alumni association • It develops ideas for the direction of the association. • It develops strategies to keep alumni informed. Sri Lanka initial alumni meeting Summary of ideas from the initial meeting • Promote AusAID scholarships for young professionals • Network with South Asian and other alumni associations • Alumni as a resource for development programs • Professional development • Develop the alumni database • Organize social events • Mentor/assist new awardees • Promote a research culture • Social/charity work Australia Awards in South Asia www.southasiascholarships.org
