  2. Working with Local Authorities to support Care Leavers at Kingston University

  3. Key features of the KU Scheme • Enhanced package of advice and guidance from pre-entry until enrolment. • Potential UCAS points reduction of up to 30 points. • £1000 pa non-means-tested bursary. • Pre-enrolment welcome session (optional). • On-going support if wished after enrolment. • Linked up with Student Funding and Accommodation services.

Local Authority input • Helped in initial shaping of the scheme. • Help with confirmation of Care Leaver status. • Referral and promotion of the scheme to present and potential KU students. • Participation in annual reviews. • Help with development of activities for Looked After Children in Years 10-13.

Edge Hill University Local Authority Engagement with EHU • North West After Care Forum • EHU / Aimhigher Greater Merseyside Network with Local Authority involvement • Building and creating networks, frameworks and systems for support of individuals. • Lancashire Looked After Children Forum / Liaison with Blackpool Virtual School / Lancashire Virtual Head to promote our STAS scheme (Students Taking Action for Success). • Targeted aspiration raising work with individual young people and referral and promotion of EHU Quality Mark Scheme.

Edge Hill University Local Authority Engagement with EHU • Local Authority instigated adjustments to events / Open Days. • Attendance at targeted Widening Participation events, ensuring customisation to meet individual needs. • Support for individuals encountering continued external barriers to study and progression. • Establishment of three way agreements / review processes for individual students at EHU. • Provision of information on Care Leavers’ entitlements once they leave Edge Hill University.
