University of Navarra - Library • Library – Introduction • Library of the University of Navarra was founded in 1961 (50 years celebration) • Some data: • In 1983 it became one of the first automated Spanish Libraries with DOBIS-LIBIS • Since 2000 we are running Millennium • There are 58 people in the library staff (Porters) • Library Systems: • ILS – Millennium • E-journals, databases-Link resolver, ERM: SFX, Metalib, Verde (Exlibris products) • Institutional repository: Dspace • EDS Discovery Service (Ebsco)

For the exclusive use of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences researchers (lecturers, postgraduates, etc.). More than 500 seats assigned to lecturers, PhD students and researchers of the different faculties, on the five floors. More than 150 seats for researchers, MA students, visitors, etc. to use as a non-permanent place of work. Over 350,000 Open Access titles. Over 150,000 titles in the Repository and accessible through online enquiries. Dictionary section on each of the 5 floors. Computer and printer room on each of the 5 floors There are a number of seminar-rooms available to users for meetings and work-sessions.

It contains all the general-content items, providing information on a variety of different fields and in various formats: Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, Inventories and Directories, Bibliographies, etc. • All users have access to it • 72 Individual Study Places • Future plans include a Resource Center for Learning and Research (CRAI).

It contains a wide range of: National, provincial, local, financial, sports and foreign press. General interest magazines. This section holds the valuable special collections of the Library: Items printed prior to 1835, Manuscripts, etc. • Access granted to PhDs, researchers, lecturers and staff of the University with a valid university card. • Three times a year, the Special Collection’s department organizes an exhibition at the Humanities Library hall. They also organize a virtual exhibition on the web in order to make their collection known.

It contains audiovisual materials and electronic documentation in different formats (Documentaries, Music, Cassettes, Microforms, CD-ROMs, DVDs, etc). • All users have access to it.

For the exclusive use of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate students. • It contains a collection of more than 9,000 open access titles, including the recommended reading specified in the subject module guides. • More than 490 seats for students • Undergraduates can request books from the Research Room thorough the catalog, in 45 minutes they are available to check-out. • The undergraduates room, the different floors of the research room and the repository are connected by an automated delivery system. • There is a project to refurbish and improve the undergraduates rooms with the same idea we did in the Science library (more group study rooms, etc)

  20. University of Navarra - Library Science Library • It is the library designated for lecturers, researchers and students of Sciences. It is situated on the first floor of the Science building. • Recently refurbished according to the regulations of the Bologna agreement as a CRAI, (Resource Center for Learning and Research), the Science Library is now equipped with: • 13 Group study rooms provided with a computer and WIFI connection; • A collection of more than 75,000 publications. • An Auto-Loan machine. • Three separate quiet study areas, one for lecturers, researchers and postgraduates and two more for undergraduate students, with open access to both reference and additional items. • All the library books and serials have RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) • Since it was refurbished: • In the room is open-access only print versions of the journals from 2002 which aren’t available through online subscription. • The rest is at the repository.

University of Navarra - Library About Dadun (Dspace) - ideas, data… -There are more 20,000 documents. - Convincing our users of the importance of archiving the information and the research. - Researchers are concerned about the visibility of their papers. Good visibility is a good way to get cited by authors. (Google) 90 % of the downloads in Dadun are from searches in Google and only 5% from searches in Dspace It’s possible to get Statistics in each paper and know the number of downloads and views per year, country. So Dadun (Dspace) is a good way to improve the visibility of your research.

University of Navarra - Library EDS – Discovery service (Unika) Advantages: - Wide coverage: searches are done against an index of some hundreds of millions of registers. - Quality: differing from Google or other searches, these resource contents correspond exclusively to academic and scientific contrasted quality documents. - Simplicity: The searching and results managing process its very clear and intuitive. - Full text access: possibility of access to the printed or electronic full text at every moment.

University of Navarra - Library EDS – Discovery service (Unika) - Why EDS among : - Finantial reasons. - Online Test (with our catalog registers), positive results. - EDS doesn’t imply to have a specific server: "Web Service". - Good interaction with Millennium. - First place in User tests, users value its contents. (Key question: look for something you know, you have researched on and tell us if the results are relevant - First place). - Its contents (increasing), and index quality. - Good interaction with SFX.

University of Navarra - Library • Radiofrequency (RFID) for the Researchers room and the rest of libraries and rooms. • Refurbish the undergraduate room and the reference room. • Manage the webpage with “Liferay” (open source enterprise portal) • More control in decision making in the online subscriptions and the development of the collections. • There are librarians responsible for the subjects but the library has a project to reach the point of Subject Specialist / Liaison Librarians.
