The Issues • Shortly after becoming its own republic, Texas faced several issues. • These issues included: • Where to place the Capitol? • How to handle the debt? • What to do with Mexico? • Whether or not to be Annexed to the U.S.? • How to handle the Native Americans Attacks? Which issue would you try to settle 1st? Why?

  7. Anson Jones • Elected in 1845 after Houston’s 2nd term • Was president when Texas joined theUnited States • Last president of Texas
