  20. Re‐designation • Principal Lin May JenNovember 3, 2009---mail • TAIWAN (R.O.C.) • Dear Principal Lin, • It was such a pleasure being your guest last month at Long Shan. As you know from your designation that my site visit your school is extremely successful, yet there are several things to continue working on as you continue to lead Long Shan Junior High and the surrounding community as an International Safe School and look forward to your re‐designation in a few years. • 1. Men’s Toilet 3rd Floor – Please fix light bulbs and the light switch plate so that no fingers can be caught or slip behind the plate and come into contact with the electrical contacts causing shock. This is a maintenance issue that can be addressed now and can be caught by regular checklist by student and staff patrols. (see photos in appendix) • 2. Continue earthquake retrofit of building. In the old section of Taipei, a highly active earthquake zone, preparedness of buildings for earthquakes is extremely important. To aid students and staff in personal preparedness, occasional earthquake drills that are surprises should also be practiced. • Attached please find the letter from Mr Max Vosskuhler after the designation site visit to your school. This is only for your reference on future improvement of your school, no need to reply, though these items will be emphasized for re-designation process three years later, thank you.

  21. International Safe Schools Certifying Centre • 3. Use of art and history to promote safety and injury reduction. With such a creative principal and staff, utilization of art projects and historical events to promote injury prevention and safety will improve the school’s already stellar performance. • 4. Practice skills with Community members who come into the school. As with every other program that the school so generously shares with parents and other community members, safety and injury prevention should be further shared with the community and noted. • 5. Keep up the excellent work you have been doing all along. • 6. Plan to participate in Principal forums at National and International Conferences, including March 20 ‐25 in Suwon South Korea. • Should you have any questions or want any direction on programs such as violence or bullying prevention, I am happy to help. • Again, thank you for your continued dedication. • Sincerely, • Max Louis Vosskuhler, MS • Peaceful Resources Center
