  5. Throughout parts of the world, earthquakes cause terror and devastation.

  6. Buildings crumble as a result of the earth’s violent shaking.

  7. When homes and other buildings are destroyed in quakes, people might resort to living in tents …

  8. … and having school take place in crowded tents, too.

  9. Mudslides can result from heavy rains.

  10. Heavy rains sometimes cause neighborhoods to flood.

  11. Flooding can cause roads to wash away and leave people homeless.

  12. Animals need to be rescued and led to safety.

  13. The flag signals an approaching hurricane.

  14. Hurricane winds and heavy rainfall can turn streets into rivers.

  15. Some storm chasers are scientists or photographers …

  16. … while other storm chasers just want to view the amazing power of nature.

  17. Meteorologists forecast the weather to help people prepare for what’s to come.

  18. Scientists are able to record earthquake activity using seismograms.

  19. Tsunamis are not easy to predict or track and can be deadly.

  20. Volcanoes are formed when magma pushes through weak spots in the earth’s crust.

  21. Volcanic eruptions can cause mass destruction.

  22. People rely on emergency aid after a catastrophe …

  23. … or they prepare in advance by having supplies on hand.

  24. Relief organizations try to provide food, clothes, medicine and shelter to those who survive nature’s fury.
