FLERMONECA: Regional cooperation and partnership with Europe in the fields of forest and biodiversity governance, including environmental monitoring Duration: April 2013 – October 2015 • FLEG focusing on Forest Governance • ERCA (ecological restoration and biodiversity) • MONECA on environmental monitoring. Implementing partners: GIZ, Hessen Forst, Austrian Environment Agency UBA and CAREC

  4. WMBOCA: Water Management and Basin Organisations in Central Asia 1. Support to water management and strengthening transboundary river basin administrations in Central Asia 2. Capacity building on river basin planning for water management organisations and joint river basin structures Period of Implementation: January 2012 – July 2014 Co-funded by the German Federal Foreign Office Implemented by GIZ and CAREC

AWARE: Targeted Awareness Raising for Enhanced EU-CA Partnership • Increasing awareness on return and reused water addressing gaps in water resources management; • Enhancing opportunities for European Union –Central Asia cooperation on environmental governance through increased awareness on the most compatible and applicable practices such as Shared Environmental Information System (SEIS); • Ensuring the private sector involvement by raising awareness on sustainable consumption and production (SPC) and energy efficiency (EE) as the gateway for Public-Private Partnership. Period of Implementation: January 2013 – July 2014 Implemented by CAREC

Investment Facility for Central Asia IFCA • The financing instruments available under the IFCA are investment co-financing in public infrastructure projects / loan guarantee cost financing / interest rate subsidy / technical assistance / risk capital operation . • Some of the current IFCA actions: • KazSEFF (Kazakhstan Sustainable Energy Funding Facility) EIB/EBRD • KyrSEFF (Kyrgyz Sustainable Energy Funding Facility), EBRD • Sugd Energy Loss Reduction Project  (Tajikistan), EIB • KAZAGRO Climate Loan for SMEs and midcaps, EIB

EU Regional Sustainable Energy Programme for Central Asia (CASEP) CASEP is assisting in the set-up of the necessary policy, regulatory and institutional mechanisms enabling the penetration of renewable energy sources in the energy mix of the beneficiary countries as well as increasing the energy efficiency at national level (as measured by the energy intensity of the national economies), notably through the introduction of new, efficient and ecologically safe power plants enabled by the development of renewable energy sources for electricity generation in accordance with each country priorities.
