  2. California Standards 8.0 Students organize and describe distributions of data by using a number of different methods, including frequency tables, histograms, standard line and bar graphs, stem-and-leaf displays, scatter plots, and box-and-whisker plots. 17.0 Students determine confidence intervals for a simple random sample from a normal distribution of data and determine the sample size required for a desired margin of error. 18.0 Students determine the P-value for a statistic for simple random sample from a normal distribution.

  3. Hypothesis Claim: We believe that the average number of songs in a electronic device is 400.

  4. Data Collection We collected data by using stratified sampling technique. We asked every 3rd person we saw walking down the hallway during school.

  5. Data Number of songs: Benjamin’s Data: 150, 275, 100, 350, 500, 90, 435, 203, 310, 258, 201, 155, 250, 620 Joey’s Data: 820, 762, 607, 425, 315, 287, 53, 932, 560, 647, 813, 374, 231, 80 Ever’s Data: 375, 208, 958, 217, 885, 405, 502, 682, 868, 427, 1028, 286, 385, 687

  6. Statistics From our survey, student’s sample mean songs in their electronic device is 445 with a sample standard deviation of 270.

  7. Confidence Interval ●95% Confidence Interval ●Z - Interval (363.77, 527.54) ☺We are 95% confident that the average songs in the electronic device are between 363.77 – 527.54.

  8. Hypothesis Testing • Test Hypothesis • Step 1: Claim: We believe that the average number of songs in a electronic device is 400. • Step 2: Test Stats (Z Test) P-Value: .2751 >

  10. Conclusion We hypothesized that Century students’ song average in an electronic device is 400. In our survey of 42 students, we found the sample mean of 445 songs and a standard deviation of 270 songs. We conclude that the population mean for all students is between 363.77 – 527.54 songs with 95% confident. We test our initial hypothesis with 5% level of significance, and confirm our hypothesis is incorrect.
